Transcribing solos by ear
Learning a solo by ear is the best ear training there is, and it works best slowly. Set a YouTube block to a lower playback speed with a loop over a single lick, so it keeps repeating until it's under the fingers. For mp3s and other recordings there's the free slow down audio tool, which keeps the pitch the same, so the lick stays in its original key while you work it out. The free scales tool helps students find the scale behind a tune.
Long tones and breathing as a daily routine
Long tones, overtones and breathing exercises are the foundation, and the first thing students skip. Set them as an assignment in the practice list. Students start a practice session with the timer and can mark the assignment as practised once a day, so a daily routine shows up as a streak. After the lesson you score it from “still needs practice” to “can apply it”, and over the weeks you can see whether the tone is really developing.
Between lessons a student can send you a short video through “Ask your teacher”, so you can hear the sound and see the embouchure before small habits become big ones.
Ensembles, scheduling and admin
Run a sax quartet or a jazz combo? Put the players in a group, schedule a fixed group lesson and use Teach Mode to show the chart on a second screen in the room. A sax teacher app for the lesson room
In the lesson itself, Teach Mode shows the chart, the étude or the play-along on a second screen in the room, paired by scanning a QR code, so students read at eye level instead of squinting at a phone on the stand. You switch between blocks from your own screen, and YouTube stays in sync when you stop to demonstrate a phrase. Between lessons the same material sits in the student portal, together with a playlist of recordings from Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music or YouTube: the players you want them listening to this month.

Yes. A YouTube block in the lesson plays at a lower speed with a loop over a phrase. An mp3 can be slowed down without changing pitch using the free audio slow-down tool. Essential for jazz students.
Does Musicdott include saxophone fingering charts?
No, Musicdott doesn't include fingering charts for wind instruments. You can upload your own chart as an image or PDF, or show the fingering in a video block.
