The music lesson platform for teachers and schools

Your schedule, your lesson material and every student's practice in one app, with Teach Mode for the lesson itself.

One place for your lessons, your timetable and practice at home

Most music teachers run on a patchwork: the timetable in a calendar or spreadsheet, sheet music in a folder, YouTube links in a group chat and homework on a scrap of paper. A few years in, nobody remembers which songs a student has already mastered, and a cover teacher starts from zero every time.

The Musicdott Lesson Platform pulls that together. Scheduling, lesson material and each student's progress live in one app that works on a laptop, tablet or phone. It was built by a drum teacher who runs his own music school, so it follows how lessons actually happen: weekly, one-to-one or in small groups, with practice between lessons as the place where real progress is made.

What's in the Lesson Platform?

◆

Lesson schedule

Week and day views built from recurring lesson series, with cancellations and make-up lessons, plus an iCal feed for your own calendar.

◆

Lesson editor

Build each lesson from blocks: sheet music, tabs, chord diagrams, drum grooves, video, audio and text.

◆

Song library

Keep your repertoire in one searchable library and assign songs and lessons to students in a few clicks.

◆

Teach Mode

Show the lesson on a second screen, TV or iPad in your teaching room, paired with a QR code. You choose the whole lesson or a single block.

◆

Practice and XP

Students tap "I practised this" on their homework, earn XP and save up for badges and rewards your school sets.

◆

Progress tracking

You score every homework item on a fixed scale, keep lesson notes and see when each student last practised.

A timetable that keeps up with you

You set up a recurring lesson series once: student, teacher, day, time and length. Musicdott then fills the week and day views for you, with a start and end date if a student only has lessons until the summer, say. If you plan two lessons at the same time for the same teacher, you get a warning (it doesn't block you, because a duet lesson is sometimes exactly what you want). When a student cancels, you see it in the timetable straight away and the lesson moves to the list of make-up lessons.

Prefer your own calendar? The iCal feed shows your lessons in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, and you can import an existing .ics file to get started. Read more in our guide to lesson scheduling software.

Lesson planning with blocks

This is lesson planning software for music teachers, not a generic course builder. A lesson in Musicdott is a stack of blocks, and you choose what suits your instrument and your student:

  • sheet music, tablature and ABC notation, or a PDF you already have;
  • chord diagrams for guitar, piano, bass and ukulele, and chords above song lyrics;
  • drum grooves via GrooveScribe, with notation that plays back;
  • YouTube and Vimeo video, audio files, images, Spotify and Apple Music;
  • plain text for explanations, practice tips or agreements.

Lessons and songs are saved in your own library and assigned to a student in a couple of clicks. Over time you build up a teaching method that is genuinely yours, and a colleague covering for you can see exactly what each student is working on.

Teach Mode: the lesson on a second screen

In the lesson room, Teach Mode puts the lesson on a screen your student can see: a monitor or TV connected over HDMI, or an iPad on the music stand that you pair by scanning a QR code, with no app and no login. You stay in control on your laptop and choose whether the student sees the whole lesson or one block up close. Video, GrooveScribe and scrolling stay in sync, and the sound comes from your laptop, so there's no echo between devices.

Homework, music practice tracking and progress

Whatever a student needs to practise sits in their own student area, with the material attached. When they've practised, they log it with one tap and earn XP. Those points count towards badges and towards rewards your school sets up, from a pair of drumsticks to a free workshop. You approve every redemption, or leave the rewards store switched off.

The assessment stays with the teacher. You score each homework item from "needs more practice" to "can apply it", write lesson notes and see per student when they last practised. That makes a parents' evening or a handover to a colleague far more concrete. See how it works from the student's side on ourpractice tracking app page.

For students, parents and your whole team

Students see their timetable, lessons, repertoire and practice sessions. Parents follow along in the parent portal. Teachers, students and parents can message each other in the app, and for a student concert or recital you create an event with sign-ups and a programme. With several teachers, everyone has their own students and timetable, while you as the owner keep the overview. More on that instudent management software for music schools.

Secure by default

The database is hosted in the EU, teachers and school owners sign in with two-factor authentication, and every third party we rely on is listed on oursub-processors page. Your school stays the owner of its data, as set out in ourdata processing agreement.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Musicdott lesson platform cost?+

Standard is €29.95 a month for one teacher and 25 students, Pro is €49.95 for up to 3 teachers and 75 students, and Compleet is €89.95 for unlimited teachers and students. Prices are in euros and exclude VAT. Your first month is free and you can cancel monthly.

Does Musicdott work for every instrument?+

Yes. Because you build lessons from blocks such as sheet music, tablature, chord diagrams for guitar, piano, bass and ukulele, drum grooves, audio and video, it works for drum, piano, guitar and singing lessons, and just as well for violin, saxophone or a band school.

How does practice tracking work?+

On each homework item the student taps "I practised this". That earns XP, at most once a day per item. The teacher sees when the student last practised and gives the score, on a fixed scale from "needs more practice" to "can apply it".

What is Teach Mode?+

Teach Mode puts your lesson on a second screen in the room where you teach: a monitor or TV over HDMI, or an iPad you pair by scanning a QR code, with no app or login. You control everything from your laptop and the student screen follows. It is designed for the lesson itself, not for practising at home.

Can parents follow their child's progress?+

Yes. Parents get their own parent portal with the lesson schedule, the lessons and their child's progress, and they can send messages to the teacher. They cannot change anything themselves.

Does Musicdott send invoices to my students?+

No. Musicdott does not invoice students or collect lesson fees on your behalf. With the Manager add-on you can record each student's payment status per month and email payment reminders.
